Watercress Eating Competition 

This needs no introduction.  

Sign up from 14:30 at the main stage to attempt to take down the champion! How quickly can you devour a bag of watercress with just a small bottle of water to wash it down. 

We are currently awaiting confirmation that on 19th May 2024 Glenn Walsh set a Guinness World Record. 

"Barters Best Competition"  

In memory of a dear friend the most awesome use of watercress competition has been renamed and is open to all traders and members of the general public.  All Festival Market, Eco Area, Makers Market and Hampshire Farmers Market traders are all encouraged to enter.

• Please confirm your intention to enter by email before the festival. Traders will be sent a certificate to display on your stall so visitors are aware of your entry.

• Upon receipt of your entry details a social media post will be made to the Alresford Watercress Festival  Facebook and Instagram accounts if you wish. Please include an image and some details if you wish this to be arranged. 

• All entries are to be dropped to the Information Tent (located in West Street near the Community Centre and marked with a flag) between 0800hrs - 0900hrs  - a committee member will be there to take delivery of your items.

• No entries will be returned – including plates etc so please ensure any serving dishes are disposable. If presenting food please include disposable cutlery for the judges.  For items such as jewellery, maps, chopping boards or artwork please note it is your responsibility to collect these items after 0930hrs 

• Judging will start judging at 0900hrs and be completed by 0930hrs 

• Entries to be labelled with:        
  • Description/background 
  • Ingredients including allergens 
  • Your name and contact number.  If relevant please include your trading name and pitch location i.e. John Smith – Station Road 22/Member of public

• Winner to be notified after the cavalcade is completed – approximately 1030 either by a "runner" to your stall or a call.

• Prize will be presented at 14:15hrs on the cookery theatre stage.  Please note there will be a photographer for press coverage so if you are unable to make it in person please do send a representative. 

The 2024 Winner was the Kate Parker of Horsechestnut Herbals with her Watercress Cough Medicine.
